For sale is a single, extra-large stone made of central Texas chert / flint. Chert / flint stone such as this makes an excellent fire starter when struck with carbon steel or when scraped against a ferrocerium rod (see video). But due to this rock's rare large size and shape, this stone would be idea for knapping into a large spear point, axe blade or tomahawk head. Due to its weight, size and shape, it would also make a good hammer stone.
Total weight is approximately 5 pounds 9.5 ounces. Though irregularly shaped, it is roughly triangular. Its edges measures approximately 5" on each side, with a curved top, and is roughly 3" thick.
This chert / flint rock has not been heat-treated or processed in any way. Because this is a natural product, it will likely contain fissures, inclusions or fractures. Some are visible on the surface (see photos).
