This is an antique personalized shaving mug dating to the late 19th / early 20th century, featuring the colorful red, yellow, and blue Knights of Pythias crest with knight’s helmet and crossed swords. The mug is inscribed with the name R. McClure in gold gilt lettering.
The mug is marked Limoges, France on the underside and was likely decorated in the United States for fraternal lodge use. Shaving mugs like this were often used in barbershops or given as ceremonial/presentation pieces to members of the Knights of Pythias, a fraternal order founded in 1864.
