Elvis Presley played the Florida Theatre in Jacksonville, FL, performing six shows on August 10th and 11th, 1956. This concert is notable for being Elvis's first performance on an indoor stage and for the local judge's attempt to censor his suggestive hip movements, which even led to a LIFE magazine feature. It was Elvis's first concert on an indoor stage and attracted significant national attention, including a prominent story in LIFE magazine. Local Judge Marion Gooding threatened to arrest Elvis if he engaged in suggestive hip movements during the performance, leading to a toning down of his act. Over 10,000 people attended the sold-out shows, where Elvis performed hits like "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Hound Dog".
