Designed by Jane Bennison and made from 1937 until about 1942, Ultra California made its modern statement on American tables. Vernon Kilns is among the most collectible of California potteries, especially the early pieces. This is a lugged (handled) Chowder bowl in the Aster glaze. She is about 6.7 inches across the handle and 1.5 inches tall. There is a 1.5 inch lightly discolored fissure that I have highlighted. Such a beautiful Aster glaze and the three wide trademark kiln points stand out in relief.
